Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the American economy added 943,000 jobs in the month of July, and the unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, down from 5.9 percent in June. With an average of 832,000 new jobs over the past three months, this robust and sustained job growth is built on the Biden-Harris administration’s progress getting people vaccinated and investing in America’s workers, businesses and communities.

Our economic recovery depends on our commitment to public health.

Our labor force is healing, our economy is reopening and people are getting back to work, but we still have a way to go. I urge every eligible person to get vaccinated against COVID-19 who has not done so already. It’s how to protect yourself, protect your family and help our economy move forward.

We head toward Labor Day with work to do, but with momentum and with hope.

We have the opportunity to create millions of good jobs through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, as well as empower working families and create a more inclusive workforce through the President’s Build Back Better Agenda.
