As we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, we must remember how we, as American citizens, are equally served every day by women and men in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Women are one of the fastest growing populations of veterans. Ten percent of the overall veteran population are women. But the percentage of women veterans is much higher – twenty percent – for Gulf War II veterans (those who served after September 11, 2001). And yet, women often report feeling invisible or forgotten after transitioning from service member to veteran.
Why don’t women tell people that they’re veterans?
