As you can imagine, today is a big deal at the Labor Department! We would not be able to celebrate this day without the work of unions, lawmakers, advocates and millions of workers who fought for better pay, improved working conditions, the right to organize and fair treatment in the workplace.
American labor has come a long way. Today, we celebrate the progress that we have made for workers in America and acknowledge that there is more work to do. At the Department of Labor, we are committed to using every tool at our disposal to enforce the law, ensure that workers come home safe at the end of the day and protect their ability to earn a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.
The Biden-Harris administration is committed to ensuring that the American Dream is achievable for all, especially for communities that have historically been left behind. This means high-quality, good-paying jobs with good benefits, where you are treated with dignity in the workplace and afforded a path to the middle class. This is our North Star.
So, from myself and the entire Department of Labor team, Happy Labor Day! Thank a worker today.
